About Us

Pet Doctors is the brainchild of two Kiwi vets, Steve Merchant and Seton Butler.

Both had graduated as young vets in the 1980s, and had built up successful practices of their own. When they met at a veterinary seminar in 2004, they shared ideas on what the ideal veterinary group would be like. Discovering they had similar philosophies, Steve and Seton joined forces to launch Pet Doctors the following year.

So what is the vision behind Pet Doctors? It's all about bringing together a group of like-minded veterinarians, vet nurses, and other talented people who share a common goal - they're all passionate about the well-being of animals. By sharing resources and taking a team-based approach to care, they can provide a greater quality of care, to a greater number of pets. Each Pet Doctors clinic support each other to achieve the highest standards in veterinary practice, and provide the best in service to clients.

Today, Steve and Seton lead a team of Pet Doctors head office support staff, clinic managers, veterinarians and vet nurses. The network of Pet Doctors clinics continues to grow, as existing clinics join the group and new clinics are launched.
